A total of 69,608 homegrown and overseas visitors flocked to the Mingun cultural zone and tourism destinations in Sagaing Region between January and June 2023, according to U Myint Sein, Head of the Sagaing Re­gion Directorate of Hotels and Tourism under the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.

 

There are 60 hotels, mo­tels and guesthouses operated in 11 townships, Sagaing Re­gion, offering 2,040 rooms for the guests. Currently, 45 hotels, motels and guesthouses are in operation.

 

“Sagaing tourism sites and Mingun cultural zone including Sagaing saw a total of 69,608 visitors of which 68,401 domestic and 720 foreign visitors as well as 487 tourists travelling as part of a package tour in the period between January and June this year,” said U Myint Sein.

 

A pilot project is being con­ducted at the Kaunghmudaw pagoda in Sagaing township, Mingun area, Maha Bodhi Tahtaung pagoda in Monywa, Mohnyin Thanbuddhe pagoda to be able to provide a barri­er-free environment for the convenience and safety of all homegrown and oversea visi­tors with disabilities.

 

Steps are being taken fo­cusing to keep the tourist sites clean and safe while creating reliable accommodation for homegrown and oversea vis­itors during their recreation trips, according to the directo­rate. — ASH/TH
