One dead, four injured as vehicle overturns in border town

Myawady, 2 January

One woman has died and four others were slightly injured after a bus for Buddhist pilgrims overturned in Myawady Township, a border town in Kayin State, the Ministry of Home Affairs reported.

The bus carrying 14 teachers was driven by a man identified as Ko Kyi Aung, 35, and the vehicle flipped over on the slope of a mountain at about 5:15 p.m. on 31 December. The accident is believed to have occurred due to the faculty braking system of the vehicle. A woman named Daw Yin Yin Oo was pronounced dead on the spot and four others were marginally hurt in the incident.

The injured people were sent to a public hospital in Myawady and a charge has filed against the driver over reckless driving by the local police.—MOHA
