Old shells unearthed in Kyaukse Township

A resident in Kyaukse Township, Mandalay Region unearthed two old shells which are believed to be from Japanese occupation period during WWII, the Ministry of Home Affairs reported on Wednesday.

The man named U Maung Maung Kyaw, 48 years of age from Bawgawati Ward; Kyaukse found two old ammunitions while he was doing dam maintenance work at around 11:45 a.m. on 22 January with the use of a backhoe. The old shells is 15 inches in length and 2.5 diameter while another one measures 23 inch long and 15 diameter.

 

Security personnel from a local military engineering regiment and a local police station rushed to the site where old bombs were discovered to check the shells and confiscated them.—MOHA
