Old mortar shell found in Bagan

An old mortar shell, which is believed to be from the Warld War II period, was unearthed in Bagan, a UNESCO world heritage-nominated site in NyaungU Township, Mandalay Region today.

 

Residents found the mortar shell while they were digging up a foundation in the compound of a house belonging to a man identified as U Win Myo, 52 years of age from Myinkapar Ward, Bagan at around 11 a.m. today. The weapon is about 15 inch long and has 10 inch in circumference.

 

Policemen and security personnel rushed to the scene where the old shell was discovered. The local police handed over it to a military battalion.—Pe Lein
