Myanmar discusses transport sector cooperation with ASEAN, China

The 1st Task Force Meeting on Mid-Term Review of the Kuala Lumpur Transport Strategic Plan, the 49th ASEAN Senior Transport Officials Meeting and the ASEAN-China Senior Transport Officials Meeting were held through video conferencing on 16 and 17 June.


Present at the meetings were Senior Transport Officials from the 10 ASEAN member nations and China, officials from the office of the ASEAN Secretary-General, Permanent Secretary U Win Khant of Myanmar’s Ministry of Transport and Communication, and Senior Officials from the Department of Civil Aviation, Department of Marine Administration, Department of Road Transport Administration, Department of Roads, and Myanma Railways.


The meeting on the first day discussed the progress of nations and regions concerning the air routes, marine routes, land routes, and transportation efficiency components of the Kuala Lumpur Transport Strategic Plan. 


The 49th Senior Transport Officials Meeting exchanged views on establishing ASEAN’s sole market for air and water routes, the Singapore-Kunming railway project and ASEAN highway project, implementing agreements and measures to make transport in ASEAN more effective, responding to COVID-19 and necessary measures for the transport sector after COVID-19. The ASEAN-China Senior Officials Meeting commenced later in the day and exchanged opinions on responding to COVID-19 and cooperation between ASEAN and China.
