The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation held a meeting on government’s assistance for recovery of fisheries sector hit by COVID-19.
Union Minister Dr Aung Thu made discussions on implementations of livestock, fishing, processing and selling fishery products for both domestic and foreign markets and supports of the ministry to the business that suffered from the decline of market. He also explained providing K40,000 worth fingerling per fishing acre to 150,000 acres for recovery of fishery businesses under the action plan of the COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan.
The MoALI will allocate K600 million for distribution of fish seeds and finglings and K60 million to conduct safety training courses at the coastal regions for fishing workers in their jobs as these financial supports have been approved by the government. The ministry has submitted proposals of SME loans K200 million each for 10 fishing ports, K10 million each for 3,190 fishing vessels in collecting foods and fuels, and K100 million for each fish/prawn processing factories. The Union Minister also talked about cooperation with international partners such as EU and JICA for providing assistance to fishing businesses in 18 townships of Ayeyawady, Bago, Mandalay, Sagaing, Magway and Kayin.
