Missing fisherman from sunken boat found dead

A fisherman who went missing after an offshore fishing boat sank near an island in the sea about 20 miles southeast of Haigyikyun Township, Ayeyawady Region at around 5 a.m. today due to strong winds was found dead under the sunken boat.

 

The dead fisherman is identified as U Tin Oo, 63 years old cook of the fishing boat from Khamoukhmaw Village in Haigyikyun Township. His corpse was found while the boat was being salvaged. An investigation into the death case is ongoing by the local police. The rescued fishermen from the sunken boat arrived back in Haigyikyun and they are stable conditions.

 

The offshore fishing boat named “Thet Phyo San-4” with 21 fishermen belongs to a man identified as U San Kyi, Ward-3 in Haigyikyun Township. The fishing boat sank in the sea suddenly after being hit by gusty winds. 20 fishermen from the sunken boat were rescued by nearby boats but an unidentified person went missing in the incident. 

 

The estimated loss of property due to the incident is about Ks. 20 million. Arrangements are being made to repair the sunken boat, according to the initial news.—Kyaw Thu Hein
