MDY hospital treats nearly a hundred patients on New Year’s Eve

Mandalay General Hospital has received over 90 patients who sustained some form of injury either from traffic accidents or scuffles during the New Year countdown, said Medical Superintendent Dr Khin Kyaw.

From 8 pm on 31 December, 2019, to 8 am on 1 January, 2020, the number of outpatients admitted to the hospital included 33 injured by traffic accidents, 30 injured by brawling, and 7 injured by other means. The number of inpatients included 18 injured by traffic accidents, 4 by brawling, and 2 by other means.

The medical superintendent said they were prepared for emergency treatment on New Year’s Eve and treated 94 patients that night. The hospital had three ambulances on standby, with seven more from humanitarian groups, and had 70 people working together.

According to the hospital’s records, 61 people received treatment and 4 people died from a traffic accident during 2017-2018 New Year’s Eve, and 60 outpatients and 21 inpatients were treated during 2018-2019.—Min Htet Aung (Man Sub-printing House) (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
