Krosa damages Nagara River tourist boats

16 August

Tropical storm Krosa has damaged the boats used by tourists to view cormorant fishing on the Nagara River in Gifu City, central Japan.

The fishermen and their trained waterfowl are a popular summer attraction.

The river has overflowed in central Gifu as torrential rain fell upstream.

Four 20-person capacity tourist boats were washed away or damaged. All tours were canceled on Friday.

The water levels have now subsided, but the fishermen are waiting anxiously until they can safely resume their work.
