Japan-South Africa business committee launched

7 Nov

Officials from Japan and South Africa are working together to help Japanese companies make the most of business opportunities. A signing ceremony for a new promotions committee was held in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa was on hand to offer his support. "There can be no better time to invest in this dynamic, growing economy than now," he said.

About 130 Japanese firms do business in South Africa. Many complain about red tape and Japan's Ambassador Norio Maruyama is asking President Ramaphosa for help.

Companies from around the world compete to secure a share of what's seen as potentially huge market in South Africa. But Japanese firms are said to be lagging behind.
