Inlay region prepares for floating Thingyan festival

In anticipation of the upcoming Thingyan water-throwing festival, Inlay Lake in southern Shan State has made arrangements to donate rice to members of the Sangha and host Dhamma ceremonies. Furthermore, the festival will include water splashing from boats, musical entertainment, and traditional dances, as stated by U Htin Aung Naing, director of the Shan State Directorate of Hotels and Tourism. These festivities will last from the Akyo day of Maha Thingyan festival to the Myanmar New Year Day on a grand scale.

Cities in southern and eastern Shan State will also set up pavilions for water splashing and entertainment.

The director remarked, “Shan State has experienced a significant increase in tourist arrivals throughout the year. For this year’s Thingyan celebration, we intend to organize grand festivities in Taunggyi, Kalaw, Inlay, Aungban, Pindaya, Tachilek, and Kengtung. Additionally, we aim to revive the tradition of the floating water festival in Inlay Lake from 13 to 16 April”.— ASH/NT
