Hpa-an, 28 January
The General Aung San Shield men’s invitational football tournament was opened at Aung Thanlwin Stadium in Hpa-an, Kayin State on 27 January.
The football event is the second of its kind. Firstly, Speaker of Kayin State parliament U Saw Chit Khin gave an opening speech and a representative from the incumbent champion University Football team returned the trophy to Kayin State Minister for Bamar Ethnic Affairs U Teza Htut Hlaing Htwe.
Afterwards, the speaker of the Kayin State parliament, Kayin State Minister for Environmental Conservation, Mining, Forestry and Road Transportation U Saw Pyi Tha, the Kayin State Minister for Bamar Ethnic Affairs, Auditor-General of the Kayin State U Saw Hla Tun and an official from the Department of Road unveiled the football tourney.
A total of 10 teams from Kayin and Mon States take part in the contest that lasts from 27 January to 13 February. In the opening match, Thaton team defeat Taungkalay squad 1-0.—Saw Myo Min Thein (IPRD)
