Crop compensation offered to farmers from Bago Region

A ceremony to provide fertilizer and cash assistance to farmers whose croplands were destroyed by natural disasters in 2018 was held at the township administrator’s office in Yedashe Township, Bago Region this morning.

 

At the ceremony, Chief Minister of Bago Region U Win Thein delivered an opening address. The director of the Department of Disaster Management U Thein Htay Aung and the director of the Department of Agriculture U Hla Myint then explained the purpose of provisions. Next, the directors from the Department of Disaster Management and the Department of Agriculture presented 292 fertilizer bags and over Ks. 59 million of crop compensation for 1,461 acres of damaged farmlands through the chief minister and regional lawmakers.

 

Over 770,000 acres of cropland in Bago Region have been damaged by floodwaters from Swar Creek last year. The cash assistance and fertilizers were supplied from the National Disaster Management Fund and World Bank’s Immediate Response Mechanism (IRM).—Tin Soe (Bago)
