The 2nd Global Security Cooperation Conference of 2023, held in the People’s Republic of China from 19 to 21 September, brought together prominent officials and experts representing over 50 regional and international organizations, including Myanmar. The primary aim of this conference was to foster collaboration in security measures on a global scale.
One of the themes of the conference was the anticipation of global security challenges, the promotion of comprehensive public security, capacity-building enhancement, and the sharing of successful security restoration strategies. Myanmar’s representatives took the opportunity to shed light on their nation’s security challenges, both domestic and international, underlining the importance of international cooperation.
Historically, Myanmar has been adhering to a foreign policy emphasizing sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in internal affairs. The global security plan aligns with Myanmar’s long-standing commitment to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, prompting Myanmar to pledge support and cooperation with other nations in its implementation.
Myanmar presently collaborates with various countries to combat global security threats and participates actively in international efforts to eradicate narcotics production and trafficking. A crucial aspect of this endeavour is preventing the inflow of precursor chemicals used in drug production. Success in combating the drug trade requires the concerted effort of nations to apprehend drug cartels both within their borders and abroad.
To effectively implement these plans, neighbouring countries, regional partners, and the international community must establish robust cross-border communication networks for timely information exchange. Criminal organizations involved in online fraud, often leveraging advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence, pose a significant challenge. Law enforcement agencies, non-governmental organizations, financial investigation units, and relevant companies must cooperate extensively to combat these sophisticated cyber criminals.
It is essential not to underestimate online criminal networks employing cutting-edge technology for activities such as human trafficking, money laundering, illegal remittance, and more. The Global Terrorism Index for 2023 highlights the use of drones by these unscrupulous groups to breach the law. To safeguard global security, nations must refrain from providing support, including drones and arms, to such criminal entities. This collective effort is crucial for ensuring peace, prosperity, and freedom from security threats worldwide.
