Chinese potato prices drop in commodity market, while Kyukok garlic prices increase

Although the price of potatoes is falling in the Yangon commodity mar­ket, the price of Kyukok garlic is rising, according to the market.

 

The wholesale price of Chinese potatoes fell to K2,200 per viss on 19 August. Various sizes of Chinese po­tatoes were priced at K1,400 to K1,800 per viss.

 

In the daily commodity price list of the Bayintnaung commodity market, the Shan potato price has not been mentioned for several days, but the Chinese potato price has.

 

Although the price of potatoes has fallen, the price of both types of garlic has risen. The wholesale price of Kyukok garlic rose to K8,000 per viss on 19 August, up from K7,000 per viss on 9 August.

 

The prices of Shan garlic on 19 August were K7,700 per viss for special grade-2, K8,200 per viss for S3, K8,700 per viss for S4, and K9,000 per viss for S5. It is reported that the price of both types of garlic on 19 August became the highest price in the records of the garlic market.

 

On 19 August 2022, the wholesale prices per viss of potatoes ranged be­tween K1,450 and K2,350. At the same time, the wholesale prices of Kyukok garlic and Shan garlic were K4,100 per viss and K2,400–K4,000 per viss, respectively, according to the old price lists.

 

Therefore, the price of potatoes this year is around the same as last year, but it is known that the price of both types of garlic on 19 August this year has doubled compared to the same period last year. — TWA/CT
