Boats loaded with illegal logs seized in Katha

A team comprised of local police and officials from Katha District and Township Forest Department made an attempt to seize a fleet of 13 boats loaded with illegal logs drifting in Ayeyawady river in Katha, Sagaing Region on 9 January.

 

In the incident, people onboard, who were supposed to be the owners of the boats and illegal logs, threw illegal logs in water before fleeing the scene.

 

The authorities have been retrieving the sunken logs with the help of 16 divers. As many as 470 Kanyin logs weighing 540.69 tons were retrieved till 16 January.

 

Investigation is ongoing to arrest the owners of the illegal logs, according to Assistant Director U Myint Naing Oo of Katha District Forest Department.— Ngwe O ( Katha)
