77.33 tons of illegal timber seized in Nay Pyi Taw, States and Regions

Forest Department under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation is implementing various ways including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS) to put down illegal logging and trading of forest products in collaboration with the people in the country.

 

From May 20 to 26 this year, Forest Department confiscated a total of 77.33 tons of illegal timber including 8.83 tons of teak, 33.40 tons of hardwood and 35.10 tons of other types of timbers in the country, according to the statistics sent by Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, State and Regional Forest Departments.

 

In addition, a total of 16 offenders were nabbed in connection with the cases along with 11 vehicles and machines, according to Forest Department.—MNA
