Aung Lan, 19 July

A ceremony to mark 72nd Martyrs’ Day was held as a public event joined by departmental personnel, town elders, and political parties in public square where Bogyoke’s statue stands in the town of Aung Lan, Thayet district at 8 am today.

Early in the morning, robes, offertories and meals were donated to monks with the aim of sharing merits to the fallen Martyrs.

At the event, departmental personnel, members of political parties, members of NGOs, schoolchildren, teachers and people from all walks of life laid wreaths at the memorial, giving a salute to the fallen martyrs. Then, the state flag was half hoisted at the flag post as a gesture of mourning.

At 10:37 am when the martyrs were assassinated, all the people and passers-by stayed in silence for two minutes on hearing alarm bells rang.—Thein Lwin (Aung Lan)
