147.74 tons of illegal timber seized within seven days

Forest Department under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation is implementing various ways including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS) to put down illegal logging and trading of forest products in collaboration with the people in the country.

 

From May 13 to 19 this year, the combined team seized a total of 147.74 tons of illegal timber including 29.66 tons of teak, 32.80 tons of hardwood and 85.28 tons of other types of timbers in the country, according to the statistics sent by Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, state and regional Forest Departments.

 

In addition, a total of 29 culprits were captured in connection with the cases along with 11 vehicles and machines, according to Forest Department.—MNA
