12 hot air balloons to be released at balloon festival in Chaung U

3 November

The 10th Myanmar hot air balloon festival will be celebrated for three days from 9 to 11 November in Chaung U Town, said U Thein Tin, the chairman of the festival organizing committee.

“This year, we are not holding any competition. We will only release hot air balloons. If we hold a competition, the competitors will use a lot of gunpowder to win. That would not be safe for local residents. We will only use gunpowder from China, instead of Taunggyi,” said U Thein Tin.
“At the festival, 12 hot air balloons from Monywa, Chaung U, and Myaungmya towns will be released over three days. Four balloons will be released each day. The hot air balloon competition has been held five times consecutively. But this year, we will only release hot air balloons,” he said.

“The balloons will be launched in a safe place. We will also make arrangements to cooperate with the fire services staff and local residents,” he added.

“Last year, the committee held a photo contest and awarded winners, in cooperation with the Monywa Photography Association. This year, we are still discussing that,” he said. —Myo Win Tun (Monywa)
