Health ministers of Southeast Asian countries and the regional director of WHO held a virtual meeting over sustainable basic healthcare services, plans for public health, experiences and challenges during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic on 6 August. Permanent Secretary of Health and Sports Professor Dr Thet Khaing Win joined the meeting. During the meeting, the regional director delivered an opening speech, and the health officials from respective countries presented the distributions of medical supplies, progress in COVID-19 vaccine production, basic healthcare system for public health and challenges during COVID-19 crisis.
Permanent Secretary Professor Dr Thet Khaing Win explained the concerted efforts of Myanmar being conducted under the guidance of the State Counsellor, like forming the National-Level Central Committee for Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19, conducting education programmes for public awareness via the website of Ministry of Health and Sports in addition to social media and public media and resumption of vaccination programme since mid-May at the hospitals.
He also discussed the formation of advisory groups in line with the advice of the Union Minister for promoting healthcare system beyond COVID-19 period, the ongoing basic healthcare services and public health services despite some shortage of human resources, other supplies and management in healthcare services.—MNA (Translated by Khine Thazin Han)
