NCSA Centre holds workshop, paper reading session

The 3rd workshop and paper reading session for innovative ways to adapt to climate change in the community was held via videoconferencing yesterday.
The event was jointly organized by the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization and the National Climate Smart Agriculture Centre of Yezin Agricultural University.
Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Thu delivered an opening remark at the workshop and paper reading ceremony.
He discussed climate change adaptation and mitigation policy to overcome climate changes especially for the two sectors of country—Myanmar’s agriculture (with 67.3 per cent of the population relying on) and breeding sectors with 22.4 per cent of GDP ratio and 19.6 per cent of foreign income.
He then highlighted the efforts of ministry in providing the proper practices for effective use of agrichemicals and low carbon emission depending on the goals of the sustainable development plan and implementing the Climate Smart Response and Climate Smart Production in farming, fisheries and breeding sectors.
He also discussed the emergency responses for the farmers and agriculture businesses together with the CERP (COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan) and MERRP (Myanmar Economic Recovery and Reform Plan) of the government and innovative ways for climate changes based on these policies and strategies.

Then, FAO Representative in Myanmar Mr Arnold Franz expressed words of thanks and Dr Nang Hseng Hom, Rector of Yezin Agricultural University briefed the paper reading session.
The NCSA Centre organized the paper reading session together with the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, FAO and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation by aiming to improve the abilities of participants in the processes for climate change.
Deputy Rector of Yezin Agricultural University Dr Hla Than presided over the first part of paper reading session while Dr Thiha (Sustainable Forest Management Specialist) and Mr Jitendra P Jaiswal (Climate Smart Agriculture Specialist) the second part. —MNA (Translated by Khine Thazin Han)
