Myanmar football stars join ASEAN awareness campaign amid pandemic

THE Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and FIFA have recently launched a joint campaign featuring regional football stars, and two Myanmar young football stars Myat Noe Khin and Nanda Kyaw participated in the event.

The goal is to encourage citizens to be active, and live a healthy and active lifestyle amidst the COVID-19 outbreak.

The two Myanmar football stars said simultaneously in the campaign video that, “Hello we want everyone to enjoy a healthy lifestyle. And in order to achieve this, we need to be active. Whatever the circumstances, even rivals need to stick together. We have to keep our distance, but we do not lose our focus. We can strengthen our solidarity by being an active community, to help achieve the maximum health potential of the ASEAN people. Stay positive, stay strong. Let’s go!”

William Ramirez, in his capacity as the Chair of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports also delivered speech in the campaign that, “The ASEAN sports sector is currently focusing, among others, on strengthening the contribution of sports to ASEAN community-building. During this pandemic, it is important for us to work hand in hand with our key partners. We are pleased to collaborate with FIFA in this campaign to leverage the role of sports in social development”.

The campaign videos also mark the first initiative for ASEAN and FIFA since signing an agreement in November 2019 on the sidelines of the 35th ASEAN Summit in Bangkok to implement joint activities. —Lynn Thit (Tgi)
