The opening of Kayin New Year for 2579 Kayin Era was held at the township sports ground in Twantay Township, Yangon Region yesterday evening.
The Kayin New Year festival was formally opened by Speaker of Yangon Region Hluttaw U Tin Maung Tun, Deputy Speaker of the regional parliament U Lin Naing Myint, Yangon Region Minister for Kayin Ethnic Affairs Naw Pan Thinzar Myo, the Lower House MP U Myint Lwin, the Upper House MP U Kyaw Htwe, regional lawmaker for Constituency -2 U Nay Naing Oo and Kayin New Year Festival Organizing Committee Chairman Saw Wah Kho cut a ceremonial ribbon to open the celebration.
Next, the regional Hluttaw speaker and the regional minister extended greetings and those present took an opportunity to pose for a group photo. The participants to the Kayin New Year are entertained with Kayin traditional dance and songs and the event celebrates from 22 to 26 December on a grand scale.—Myo Hlaing (Twantay)
