The Japanese women's ice hockey team has won gold at the Lausanne 2020 Youth Olympic Games.
It is the first time that Japan has won a medal in the event. The squad has also become the first Asian team to win gold in an Olympic ice hockey competition.
Japan beat Sweden 4-1 in the final. The game took place at Vaudoise Arena on Tuesday. Sweden had won the previous two Youth Olympic titles.
Sweden scored first, late in the first period. But Japan turned the game around in the second period, scoring an equalizer. Japan scored three more times in the third period. Rio Noro, Ito, and Shimomukai netted those goals.
