Amateur teams to be included in General Aung San Shield 2020

Amateur football teams will participate in the General Aung San Shield 2020, according to the drawing ceremony for the tourney held yesterday at the headquarters of the Myanmar Football Federation in Yangon.

Five amateur teams will compete in this year’s tourney, taking the total number of teams to 25.

The five amateur teams are Paung Laung FC, the champions of the We Are One Cup 2019, Happy Friendship FC, the Yangon League champions, and Ten Mon FC, the first runners up in the Yangon League, and unknown teams from the Yangon Premier League and the play-offs stage.

Twelve teams from the Myanmar National League clubs and eight teams from Myanmar National League II will participate in the tourney, like the previous year.

The General Aung San Shield 2020 Football Tournament will start on 8 April and conclude on 30 September.

Matches will be played at the Thuwunna Stadium, Padonmar Stadium, and Salin Stadium.

Myawady FC, University FC, Silver Stars FC, Kachin United, Mawyawady FC, Yaw Myay FC, and Junior Lions FC will represent League II.

Defending champions of the Myanmar National League, Shan United, 1st runners up Ayeyawady United, and defending champions of the General Aung San Shield, Yangon United, will participate in the tourney from the quarterfinal stage, according to the Myanmar National League.—Lynn Thit (Tgi)
