Mawlamyine City to celebrate 73rd anniversary of Mon National Day

The 73rd anniversary of Mon National Day is scheduled to be celebrated on a grand scale at a location near the office of Mon State parliament in Mawlamyine on 9 February, according to a source from Min Ka Raine, Secretary of the event organizing committee.

           

The central committee for holding 73rd anniversary of Mon National Day was set up along with formation of 13 sub-committees to commemorate the event. The Ministry of Ethnic Affairs donated Ks. 5 million for observing the festivities while the local government funded Ks. 45 million and well-wishers contributed more than Ks. 100 million to the committee, said Nai Yar Zar, Vice-Chairman-1 of the event organizing committee.

           

Coordination among concerned officials representing the event organizing sub-committees, town elders and local philanthropic organizations has already been made to provide food and accommodation for the invitees including the Head of State and guests at home and abroad. The event will also include games, sport events, performances of ethnic cultural troupes, modern music bands, and talks between local youths and prominent figures from different organizations.

 

A market area consisting of 82 booths will also operate; selling ethnically made garments, handicrafts, and food that is part of the local cuisine. The 72nd anniversary of Mon National Day was held in Bago.—Mudon Maung Maung
