Melbourne in Australia has been jolted by a rare earthquake that damaged buildings and left residents shaken.
The US Geological Survey says the magnitude 5.9 quake struck near the country's second-biggest city at around 9:15 AM local time.
It was reportedly felt across much of southeastern Australia, including Sydney, Adelaide and Tasmania.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said, "It can be a very, very disturbing event for an earthquake of this nature. They are very rare events in Australia, and, as a result, I'm sure people would have been quite stressed and disturbed by that, particularly in the most immediate area affected."
Australian geological authorities say the earthquake was one of the country's biggest on record.
