Inmates vaccinated against COVID-19 in Insein central prison

THE Insein Central Prison started its COVID-19 vaccination drive for the prison inmates yesterday. According to prison officials, a total of 610 inmates were vaccinated on the first day.

 

“This is the first COVID-19 vaccination of prisoners at the prison. Although there is still no outbreak of COVID-19 in the prison, we are taking precautionary measures and all prisons who wish to be vaccinated will be vaccinated,” said a prison officer.

 

The vaccination was undertaken by prison doctors and nurses, under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Sports and the guideline of the State Administration Council and it will continue over the coming days depending on the availability of vaccines from the Ministry of Health and Sports.

 

At present, there are more than 9,000 inmates in the Insein Centra Prison and more than 2,500 have registered to be vaccinated. — Myint Mo/GNLM
