Overturned fuel truck catches fire in Mawlamyine

A fire broke out when a road accident occurred in the early morning on 15 February in Mawlamyine Town in Mon State.


Firefighters were called to the scene at 3:05 am, and the fire was brought under control at 5:00 am, according to officials.


According to the witnesses, the fuel tanker, carrying 4,600 gallons of fuel and driven by Zaw Win Tun, 44, from Gawcho village, Chauk Township, overturned in Phettan Ward in Mawlamyine Town when the driver lost control as he turned at the Myotaw Oo roundabout from Daw Khin Kyi. The accident caused the fuel to leak, resulting in the fire.


According to the fire brigade’s estimations, the damages amount to K 68.4 million. The truck’s driver and conductor suffered minor injuries in the accident. Mawlamyine Myoma Police have filed charges against the driver, Zaw Win Tun, for reckless driving.—Moe Tauk (Shwebo) (Translated by Hay Mar)
