Union Minister Dr Pe Myint holds first meeting with literary consultant team of Sarpaybeikman

Union Minister for Information Dr Pe Myint held the first coordination meeting with the newly formed literary consultant team of Sarpaybeikman yesterday.

The meeting was held at the office of Printing and Publishing Department of MOI in Yangon.

In his opening remark, the Union Minister advised on holding the consultant team’s coordination meetings twice a month at the initial stage, and then monthly meetings for sharing ideas and encouragements of senior consultants to the editors with lesser literary experiences.

The nine-member new consultant team was formed with Sithu Dr Thaung Kaung, Dr Khin Aye (Maung Khin Min-Danubyu), U Maung Hlaing (Mg Swe Ngal), Daw Mya Mya Than (Ma Hnin Phwe), Daw A Win (Librarian), U Ohn Myint (Mg Yint Mar-Kyaunggone), U Than Ohn (Mg Ze Yar), U Kyi Win (Lawka Amon) and U Htay Win (Mg Lin Yeik) who are the veterans writers of Myanmar literary world.

The formation of new consultant team was aimed to foster literary development works, to improve independence and quality of translation and publication and to modernize development of Sarpaybeikman library.

Union Minister Dr Pe Myint also urged the consultant team to lead in organizing activities such as literary events and paper reading sessions.

Those attendees at the meeting discussed upgrade of literary development works, quality of publications, book productions from Sarpaybeikman paper reading session, training course for editorial teams to promote practices of literary studies, republishing famous books of Sarpaybeikman, using social media platforms to give young generation knowledge about activities of Sarpaybeikman, translation of Myanmar cultures into English and publications of science and technology books.

In the afternoon, Union Minister Dr Pe Myint met with cartoonists who are contributing their works regularly in the newspapers Myanma Alin and the Mirror, and the journals Doe Kyay Ywar and Shwe Thway, publication of Sunday Cartoon collection, upgrade of Shwe Thway Journal, electoral cartoon campaign for 2020 General Election, broadcast of cartoon animation programme for MRTV and development of ‘cartoon museum’. — MNA (Translated by Aung Khin)
