UAGO holds Universal Periodic Review meeting

The Union Attorney-General’s Office held a meeting on the process of Universal Periodic Review yesterday.

Union Attorney-General U Tun Tun Oo said that Myanmar’s UPR reports were submitted twice in 2011 and 2015 as per the Universal Periodic Review (UPR); the third edition will be submitted in October this year.

He continued to say that the report preparation committee had submitted the fourth or final versions of draft to the national level UPR Committee.

The UPR has encouraged the government to implement a mechanism on human rights affairs.

The attendees at the meeting discussed implementation of decisions in the third coordination meeting of national committee, plans for establishment of national level mechanism for Myanmar human rights, and submitting the national report to the UN Security Council.

The meeting was attended by Union Deputy Attorney-General U Win Myint, Myanmar Human Rights Commission Chairman U Hla Myint, Permanent Secretary of the Union Attorney-General’s Office Dr Thidar Oo, Director-General Dr Thi Thi Myint, Director-General from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Chan Aye and the respective officials from the Union Attorney-General’s office.—MNA (Translated by Ei Phyu Phyu Aung)
