MoC to accept online applications for auto imports on 1 October

The Ministry of Commerce will accept the online applications for vehicle imports from auto showrooms starting from 1 October, according to the third meeting of Supervisory Committee for Motor Vehicle Importing held online yesterday.


During the meeting, Union Minister Dr Than Myint said that Supervisory Committee for Motor Vehicle Importing has allowed 143 sales centres and 62 showrooms to open till August 2020. The committee issued Notification 1/2020 on 31 August 2020 for specification of the model years of imported vehicles with the remarks of its members.


The notification permitted the imports of the vehicles earlier than three years for private vehicles, old vehicles, vehicles for donation and passenger vehicles and the vehicles earlier than five years for commercial vehicles, he said.


He added that the ministry was processing for accepting vehicle import licences applications fully online starting from 1 October to facilitate trading during COVID-19.


Applications of vehicle import licences from showrooms will be first trailed fully online. During the online import application trailed period, their vehicle purchase permits will be issued manually. Applications of vehicle import licences and purchase permits from sales centres will be then processed fully online, he added. The meeting was concluded following a round of discussions of the attendees.
