Union Minister U Kyaw Tin participates in 53rd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and related Meetings held via videoconference

 

Union Minister for International Cooperation U Kyaw Tin participated in the Opening Ceremony of the 53rd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, the 53rd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and related Meetings which were held via videoconference yesterday at 07:30 am from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nay Pyi Taw.


The Opening Ceremony was commenced with the singing of ASEAN Anthem by Vietnamese artists. Then, Mr Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam as ASEAN Chair of the year 2020 delivered welcoming remarks and Mr Pham Binh Minh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam delivered opening remarks.


The 53rd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was chaired by Mr Pham Binh Minh, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and attended by ASEAN Ministers and the Secretary-General of ASEAN. At the Meeting, the Ministers discussed and exchanged views on ASEAN community building, follow up to the 36th ASEAN Summit and ASEAN 2020’s priorities, applications of external partners to accede to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), regional architecture and external relations, regional and international issues, activities of ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights Representatives, adoption of the Joint Communique of the 53rd AMM, preparations for ASEAN Post Ministerial Conference (PMC) 10+1 Sessions with ASEAN’s Dialogue Partners, 21st ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, 10th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, 27th ASEAN Regional Forum and the 37th ASEAN Summit and related Summits.


Then, the Union Minister attended Meeting of the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ) Commission, the 27th ASEAN Coordinating Council, Special Session of the ASEAN Coordinating Council Meeting on Sub-Regional Development, ASEAN Post Ministerial Conferences (PMC) with China, Japan and the Republic of Korea, 21st ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and 10th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.


At the ASEAN Post Ministerial Conferences (PMC) with China, Japan and the Republic of Korea, the Ministers discussed and exchanged views on future cooperation as well as regional and international issues.


The Special Session of the ASEAN Coordinating Council Meeting on Sub-Regional Development was attended by Foreign Ministers from the ASEAN Member States, the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Representatives from ASEAN Economic Community pillar, ASEAN Socio-Culture Community pillar, Asia Development Bank and Economic Research Institute of ASEAN and East Asia.


The 10th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was attended by Foreign Ministers from the ASEAN Member States, Australia, China, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Russian Federation, United States and the Secretary-General of ASEAN. During the Meeting, the Ministers discussed and exchanged views on future directions of the East Asia Summit Cooperation, regional and international issues and the preparation of the 15th East Asia Summit which will be held in November this year.—MNA
