Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has vowed to promote growth and curb inflation as US sanctions weigh heavily on his country.
He focused on the economy in a news conference on Sunday, ahead of parliamentary elections scheduled for Friday.
Rouhani said Iran will not negotiate with Washington under the current situation -- making it clear he wants US sanctions removed before any talks.
Tensions between the two countries have increased since Washington unilaterally pulled out of a 2015 deal to curb Iran's nuclear program, and re-imposed sanctions on Tehran.
Rouhani has emphasized dialogue, not confrontation, with Western nations.
Rouhani's latest remarks are apparently aimed at drumming up support for the candidates.
