Pearl Jubilee Naga Traditional New Year to be celebrated in Khamti

The Naga Traditional New Year 2020 will be held on a grand scale in Khamti Township, Naga Self-Administered Zone in Sagaing Region on 15 January.

“This year’s Naga New Year Festival marks the Pearl Jubilee. We will be celebrating the festival on a grand scale, depicting the tradition and customs of Naga ethnic people. We also decorate the ground where Naga New Year Festival will commemorate with traditional architecture,” said U Aung Htut, Chairman of Naga Literature and Culture Association (Central).

Approximately 1,400 performers from ethnic cultural troupes representing Khamti, Homalin, Leshi, Lahe, Nanyon, Pansaung and Donhe Townships are expected to take part in the event. A wide range of booths displaying traditional utensils, handicrafts, looms, and craft of blacksmithing will also showcase its products.—Sanay Maung (Khamti)
