17 February

In their Week-6 match of the Myanmar National League 2020, Yangon United secured a narrow 1-0 win over Southern Myanmar yesterday with a long goal scored by Than Paing. The match took place at the Mawlamyine stadium.

Yangon United lined up its usual 4-4-2 set formation with foreign players Barfo and Emmanuel in the striking position.

The match was not an easy one for former champion Yangon United as Southern Myanmar applied their massive defense skills well.

Mg Mg Win tried to score an early goal for Yangon United but the Southern Myanmar keeper deflected his attempt.

Yangon United got a free kick at 37 minutes, but Barfo’s kick was not accurate enough to change the score.

The first half ended with a scoreless draw.

Yangon United employed new tactics in the second half and substituted local striker Than Paing in place of Barfo.

After Than Paing joined in, the match was more active in the striking position.

With a close assist from Aboubacar, Than Paing scored a header at 78 minutes, the lone goal for Yangon United in the match.

Speaking about the narrow result, Yangon United head coach U Tin Maung Tun said he was not happy with the team’s performance.
