National level tests held to enter 9th ASEAN Quiz

Selected Myanmar students took written tests and interview session at the national level quiz yesterday in preparation for entering the regional level 9th ASEAN Quiz which will be held in Singapore.


A team of judges led by Dr Daw Khin Kyi Pyar, Rector of National University of Arts and Culture (Mandalay) under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, interviewed the 10 students who had passed writing tests via videoconference. The Myanma Radio and Television, in-charge department of SCI-Myanmar, organized the personal interview session.


Ministry of Education’s Department of Higher Education primarily selected a total of 34 students nationwide for 9th ASEAN Quiz-National Level.


Out of them, 30 students sat for the written tests held online on 20 August, and 10 of them qualified for the personal interview.


Five of the students who pass the personal interview will represent Myanmar at the 9th ASEAN Quiz-Regional Level.


ASEAN Quiz-Regional Level that allowed participation of students aged between 15 and 18 years old of ASEAN member countries aims to enhance the ASEAN knowledge, to foster ASEAN spirit and to promote cooperation among ASEAN youths.


ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information (COCI) launched the quiz project in 2002, and ASEAN member countries, in turn, hosted the quiz competition that takes place every two years.


Thailand hosted the quiz competition in 2002, Brunei in 2004, Malaysia in 2006, the Philippines in 2009, Cambodia in 2012, Viet Nam in 2014, Laos in 2016 and Indonesia in 2018.


Singapore will host 9th ASEAN Quiz-Regional Level this year, and its 10th edition event will be organized by Myanmar in 2022.
