Myanmar’s rice stocks exceed local consumption

Myanmar now has a rice stock exceeding the local consumption for this year, and the rice associations at basic levels will distribute the staple food of the country in wards and industrial zones at wholesale prices if required, according to a meeting held in Yangon yesterday.

 

The meeting held at Myanmar International Trade Center focused on the state- and region-wise rice production and remaining rice stocks and rice exports for the stability of local rice market, amidst the global COVID-19 scare.

 

The remaining rice stocks and summer paddy yield, rice supply and demand, emergency rice provision programmes for all areas, export control measures of the State, emergency rice reserve of the State, state- and region-wise plans to facilitate the commodity flow and prevent market manipulation were also discussed in seeking ways for the stability of the local rice market.

 

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce U Aung Soe, Director-General of Department of Agriculture Dr Ye Tint Tun, Director-General of Department of Consumer Affairs U Myint Lwin, President of Myanmar Rice Federation U Ye Min Aung, Chairman of Myanmar Rice Merchants Association U Aung Than Oo, Executive Director of Myanmar Inspection and Testing Services Limited U Toe Aung Myint and official took part in the discussions.—MNA(Translated by TMT)
