Myanmar squad to begin training in October for Suzuki Cup

October 02

The Myanmar national team is planning to start training in October for the 2020 ASEAN Suzuki Cup, which will be played later this year.

The postponed ASEAN Suzuki Cup will be held from 5 December 2021 to 1 January 2022, and the Myanmar team will take more than a month to prepare.

Antoine Hey, German head coach of the Myanmar national team, is likely to form a team based on the players who competed in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers and 2023 Asian Cup second round qualifiers in the middle of this year.

Some Myanmar players are part of the Myanmar U-23 team that will compete in the AFC U-23 Championship, and thus they can only join the team from the first week of November.

The Myanmar squad has been out of training since the end of the recent World Cup Qualifiers and will resume training this month.

Myanmar is falling in Group A together with the Philippines, Singapore, and Brunei or Timor Leste. In Group B, defending champions Viet Nam is facing against Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia and Laos.

The Myanmar team will play against host Singapore in the opener on 5 December.

The Myanmar team was eliminated from the group stage in the last 2018 tournament and will have to work hard to get a good result in this competition. — Ko Nyi Lay/GNLM
