Myanmar exports four categories of ginger

ACCORDING to the ginger traders, Myanmar is exporting four ginger categories in the new ginger harvest season.

“The exporter companies stock the ginger and export it to foreign markets by buying through the local traders. When they export the ginger, they divide it into four categories, and the price of ginger is also different.

Now, Myanmar exports the ginger to China, Thailand, Malaysia and Japan. But Japan buys only a small volume of ginger and only after conducting the quality check,” said kitchen crops traders.

ps traders. Myanmar determines the ginger quality as first grade, second grade, third grade and lower grade. First-grade ginger is sold for K1,800 per viss when second grade one, K1,600 per viss, third grade, K1,400 per viss and lower grade ginger, K1,200 per viss respectively.

“The exported ginger is grown in Kalaw and Aungban. Hopang is one of the most popular places in Myanmar. Japan demands only the firstgrade ginger, which can keep long-lasting moisture and is fungus free. Japan is also likely to buy the ginger which is freshly dug,” he added.

The ginger is dug. It needs to be refined. Then, the ginger skin is peeled and dried. After that, it needs to be stored in cold storage. Myanmar exports 68 per cent of ginger mostly to Thailand, Bangladesh, China, Sri Lanka and India.

Ginger are mostly grown in Kalaw, Aung Pan, Hopan, Pinlaung, Pindaya, Taunggyi and less grown in Chin State, Mandalay Region and Ayeyawady Region.
