Muay Thai champion Toby Bindon joins Myanma traditional lethwei

17 February

World Boxing Council (WBC) Muay Thai champion Toby Bindon recently signed a contract with the World Lethwei Championship, according to an official statement issued by WLC. Toby was also a British Sanda champion and the WBC Muay Thai champion in December, and that encouraged him to sign with the World Lethwei Championship.

Speaking about joining WLC, Toby Bindon, 26, said he wants to prove himself as the best lethwei striker. “This is a huge test for me and I am very excited. World Lethwei Championship is the biggest platform for bare-knuckle combat and I want to prove that I am the best striker there is. I am looking forward to having some fun inside the lethwei ring,” he said.

Toby said he chose WLC because of his love for lethwei.

“I’ve known about lethwei for a while. I came to know about lethwei after watching the Tony Jaa film Ong-bak, in which he fought in just hand-wraps or rope, so I started researching, and I came across ‘the art of nine limbs’ that is lethwei. I used to watch the footage of Dave Leduc, and Lethwei fights with my friend Greg. I always said I’d love to compete in lethwei for the WLC,” he said.

Bindon will be competing in the light middleweight division. He is the same weight class as Myanmar lethwei star Thway Thit Win Hlaing.—Lynn Thit (Tgi)
