More western tourists expected as  visa-on-arrival scheme takes effect on 1 Oct

16 October

MYANMAR is giving visas on arrival to the tourists from six western  countries—  Italy,  Germany,  Russia,  Australia,  Switzerland  and  Spain,  as  the  new  scheme  took effect on 1 October.

Officials  from  the  Ministry  of  Hotels  and  Tourism  said  the  number  of  inbound  tourists  is  likely to surge thanks to this plan.

“More  tourists  from  the  six  European  countries  are  expected to visit Myanmar as they have  been  given  visa  on  arrival  access,”  said  U  Naing  Win,  the  director of Directorate of Hotels and Tourism in Yangon Region. Ordinary  passport  holders  from  these  six  countries  can  apply  for  the  visa  on  arrival  at  Yangon  International  Airport,  Mandalay  International  Airport  or  Nay  Pyi  Taw  International  Airport. While  tourist  arrivals  from  western  countries  slightly  declined,  the  number  of  visitors  from the above-mentioned countries is increasing in Myanmar. Tourist  arrival  to  Yangon  Region  has  been  nearly  700,000  up to October this year.
