MoE discusses drafting education strategy with development partners

The Ministry of Education and education stakeholders of drawing up of National Education Strategic Plan-NESP 2021-2030 organized a coordination meeting via videoconferencing yesterday.
Union Minister for Education Dr Myo Thein Gyi, Deputy Minister U Win Maw Tun, Education and TVET Sector Coordination Group-ETVSCG co-chairs Ambassador of Finland Ms Riikka Laatu and UNESCO Myanmar’s Head of Office Ms Kim Min Jeong, Permanent Secretary and Directors-General of the Ministry of Education, representatives of education stakeholders, and ETVSCG members participated in the meeting.
At the meeting, the Union Minister said that the achievements and challenges being faced in implementing NESP 2016-2021 were included in NESP Mid-Term Review.
He added education stakeholders, related ministries, teachers and all participants in the education sector must work together on drawing up of NESP2 which includes findings, suggestions and analysis from NESP Mid-Term Review and NLD Manifesto 2020.
Despite achievements in education reform, some challenges are still experienced including dropping out from middle and high schools, demand from local labourer market, cooperation between universities, schools and factories, and 21st century skills and competencies which are the challenges of the digital age, he said.
The ministry will create blended lifelong learning opportunities that lead to quality education which will fulfil 21st- century skills and competencies, he said. He added that high-tech learning and high-touch learning play a very important role for solving the problems of the digital age.
He stressed the importance of sustainable learning, more investments in education, prioritizing ethnic nationals and least-developed individuals who have no access to education, building capacities of the teachers, improving job field, and sustainable supports of technologies and infrastructures for the development of quality education.
He expressed thanks to education stakeholders for their supports in drawing up of NESP 2021-2030. He said that the ministry and education stakeholders would hold a total of 21 consultation meetings in which 10 meetings were successfully held and this was 11th meeting.
The ministry already established Myanmar Digital Education Platform (MDEP) providing digital textbooks and video files of Grade 1, 2, 3,4,6,7, and 10 that can be used in conducting online training.
Myanmar Education Channel and MRTV were broadcasting the lessons for the basic education students.
Online training for the teachers can be conducted for the teachers from Basic Education, Higher Education, Technical Vocational Education and Training and private education via Learning Management System (LMS) established by the Ministry of Education, he added.
Education and TVET Sector Coordinator Group Co-chair and Ambassador of Finland Ms Riikka Laatu said to cooperate in the drawing up of NESP 2021-2030 and to join hands in hands with the ministry for development of Myanmar’s education sector.
