Mandalay Region welcomes over 680,000 tourists in 2019

Out of 4.4 million tourist arrivals to Myanmar in 2019, more than 680,000 foreign visitors travelled to Mandalay Region, according to official statistics released by the Mandalay Region’s Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (DOHT).

 

The Southeast Asian country attracted over 3.5 million tourists in 2018, in which Mandalay Region received 492,097 in the same period, according to official statistics from the Mandalay Region’s DOHT.

 

Majority of tourists visited some well-known travel destinations such as the U Bein bridge, the Taungthaman Lake, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kuthodaw pagoda, Shwe Kyaungkyi, the Myanan Sankyaw Golden Palace, the Maha Muni Buddha Image, the Mandalay Hill, and other ancient buildings and pagodas in Mandalay Region.

 

The Mandalay Regional Government, the Region’s Directorate of Hotels and Tourism, and the concerned organizations jointly made arrangements to woo more tourists to the region by drawing up action plans in cooperation with tour operators on a monthly basis.

 

According to statistics from the Mandalay Region’s DOHT, the region welcomed 75,727 tourists in 2010, 99,016 in 2011, 160,975 in 2012, 219,518 in 2013, 242,566 in 2014, 306,432 in 2015, 385,031 in 2016, 483,784 in 2017, and 492,097 in 2018, over 680000 in 2019.—Than Zaw Min, IPRD
