Mandalay-Myitkyina AC express train to start services in early March

An air-conditioned express train will be run on the Mandalay-Myitkyina route in early March, with halts at seven stations along the route: Shwebo, Kanbalu, Kawlin, Naba, Mohnyin, Hopin, and Mogaung, according to Myanma Railways.

The AC express train that is currently operational does not stop at Kanbalu and Hopin stations. The new AC train has been scheduled after passengers requested a halt at the two stations. “The new AC train will be run to fulfill the needs of the people,” said an official from Myanma Railways.

Tickets from Mandalay to Shwebo will be priced at K2,000 for ordinary class and K4,000 for upper class passengers; tickets to Kanbalu will cost K3,500 and K6,500; to Kawlin K5,000 and K9,500; Naba K6,500 and K12,500; Mohnyin K7,500 and K15,000; Hopin K8,000 and K16,000; and, Mogyaung K9,000 and K18,000. The entire trip from Mandalay to Myitkyina will cost K10,000 for ordinary class travellers and K20,000 for upper class passengers. The train will leave Mandalay for the upstream journey at 1 pm in the afternoon and arrive in Myitkyina at 7 am the next morning. On the downstream journey, it will depart from Myitkyina at 1:30 pm in the afternoon and arrive in Mandalay at 7:45 am the next morning. —Lu Aung (Katha) (Translated by Ei Myat Mon)
