Lethwei fighters, Muay Thai warriors to fight for glory in Ye Township

A traditional Lethwei event between Myanmar fighters and Muay Thai warriors from Thailand and United States is going to be staged in Ye Township, Mon State on 8 and 9 February.


The Lethwei fight marks the 132nd anniversary Buddha Pujaniya festival of Shwe Hsan Taw Pagoda and Sagar Taung Pagoda in Ye Township. Myanmar’s undefeated Lethwei superstar Soe Lin Oo takes on a Thai opponent in the main event for the challenge on 8 February. Lethwei fighter Kyar Thwe will confront with a Thai fighter in the co-main event. Rah Mahn, the fastest rising Lethwei star and young pugilist will fight against an experienced US fighter in the main event for the fight on 9 February.


Mandalay-based Lethwei fighter Byat Gha will clash with Thai warrior in the co-main event. There will also be other bouts between Myanmar fighters during the event that will not be broadcast live on TV channels.—By Kyaw Htike Soe
