Global coronavirus infections top 60 million

Johns Hopkins University in the United States says the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases worldwide has topped 60 million.

 

The university says global infections totaled 60,037,735 as of 18:00 UTC on Wednesday. The global death toll rose to 1,414,513.

 

The US has the most cases with 12,642,245, followed by India with 9,222,216, Brazil with 6,118,708, France with 2,206,369 and Russia with 2,144,229.

 

The US also has the most deaths with 260,591, followed by Brazil with 170,115, India with 134,699, Mexico with 102,739 and Britain with 55,935.

 

It took 166 days for the number of infections to surpass 10 million. But the pace has gradually quickened. The figure reached the 60 million mark from 50 million in 17 days.
