Global coronavirus fatalities near 1 million

Data organized by a US university shows that the global death toll from the coronavirus is approaching 1 million.


Johns Hopkins University says that as of 18:00 UTC on Sunday, 995,414 people had been confirmed dead.


The most fatalities came in the US at 204,606, followed by Brazil at 141,406, India at 94,503, Mexico at 76,243, and Britain at 42,077.


The worldwide cumulative tally of confirmed coronavirus infections amounted to 32,925,668.


The largest number of cases, 7,093,285, were in the US, followed by India with 5,992,532, Brazil with 4,717,991, Russia with 1,146,273, and Colombia with 806,038.
