Construction of gigantic sitting Buddha statue nearly complete

A giant sitting Buddha statue is being built on a mountain named “Three Pagodas” in Kyaikto Township, Mon State and construction work is expected to finish by the end of this year.

 

The 255 ft. and 6 inch high Buddha statue is believed to be the largest of its kind in the world and it is being constructed with the contributions donated by the people across the country. Apart from an archway of the Buddha statue, six bells ranging from 100 to 300 viss of brass will be installed while a lift will also be set up. In addition, a religious edifice and a cooking place for pilgrims are being built and free meal will be offered to visitors on a daily basis.
